Angelina's Dragons

Since it has been so cold the kids cannot go outside for recess. The teachers have them play or draw inside. Angelina brought this home and I was stunned at the detail in the drawing. This is one of a very few drawings that use the whole paper and each scale of the dragon is placed just so. At first I was thinking "when did you have time for all your other schoolwork"; then, I remembered indoor recess!

Spelling Words

Gianna's spelling word assignment each week is to copy the words. Well, that is a little too mundane for Gigi. Her teacher asked me to challenge her because the words are so easy for her so we write stories. Her stories have really improved this year. She has reading themes that we try to stick with but sometimes the imagination takes over. Somehow, we started with the book, "If you give a pig a pancake" and we ended up at the zoo with moose? I like the illustration to go with it, Gianna is being lifted up off the ground by her green balloon! And that is supposed to be a bull moose poking his head through the paper (for effect, Gianna said). The antlers are wrong but that is a minor detail I think we can overlook. Too cute.

More Art from Gianna

Gianna's first grade class has been studying the rainforest. Here is her "book report" on the red eyed tree frog. I love the illustrations, the realism. I've never seen a better dead red eyed green tree frog.
